As I travel throughout the district, I continue to hear from constituents who are struggling with rising costs due to President Trump’s reckless policies. That is why I am focused on advancing commonsense legislation that will address people’s most pressing needs.
Gas Price Relief Act
I wrote the bill to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax to provide Washingtonians with urgently-needed relief from high gas prices due to Trump’s reckless war in Iran.
Cracking Down on Corporate Monopolies
I am fighting to pass bills that prevent corporate monopolies from price gouging. I’m working to pass legislation that stops Big Oil price hikes, and fighting mergers that jack up food costs. I’m standing up to healthcare CEOs to end health insurance delays and denials.
Addressing Housing Affordability Crisis
I am working to pass bills to address the ongoing housing affordability crisis and increasing access to home ownership, like the Permanent Housing Affordability Act. I also worked with my colleagues to pass the bipartisan 21st Century Road to Housing Act package that makes long overdue improvements to federal housing programs to increase housing supply and lower costs for American families.
Fighting Against Trump’s Tariffs
I’m fighting to rein in Trump’s abuse of reckless tariffs that continue to raise costs on everyday goods here in Washington and hurt our agriculture industry and small business owners. I worked with our US Trade Representative and succeeded in undoing tariffs on Washington apples.
Working For Affordable and Accessible Healthcare for All
As the first pediatrician in Congress and the chair of the Democratic Doctors Caucus, I believe that affordable and accessible healthcare should be a right for all Americans. I have been laser-focused on fighting against the destructive Republican agenda that has skyrocketed healthcare costs by ending critical tax credits that help Americans afford health insurance premiums. I am also fighting to undo steep Republican cuts to Medicaid (Apple Health) that are leaving patients without coverage and closing rural hospitals across the country. I have used my position on the Energy and Commerce Committee to pass bills that have already given Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug costs and cap insulin at $35/month for seniors. I have multiple bills to lower out-of-pocket healthcare costs, provide universal healthcare coverage through a state public option, and hold insurance companies accountable for putting profit over patients.
I am fighting every day to protect access to reproductive rights for all Americans. In Congress, I have cosponsored and voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would make Roe v. Wade the law of the land and protect a woman’s right to choose.
I also believe veterans should have access to timely, affordable, and accessible healthcare, which is why I helped get the PACT Act signed into law that gives Veterans exposed to dangerous toxins the care that they need and deserve.
Fighting to Protect Our Local Economy
I am fighting for jobs and livelihoods in Washington’s Eighth District. I have continually fought the Trump Administration’s cuts to the Forest Service that are costing jobs, putting communities at heightened risk for wildfires, and threatening our treasured public lands. I also challenged the Trump Administration’s reckless decision to defund the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub, which promised critical clean energy innovation and jobs in our region. I am also fighting against President Trump’s destructive and erratic tariffs that are hurting farmers, growers, small businesses, and the rest of us.
While fighting the Trump Administration, I am also working to advance bipartisan legislation that will bolster our economy here in Washington. I am working to advance legislation that will permanently fix the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) and provide crucial support for Washington farmers and growers, fight against organized retail crime rings that threaten local retailers and their employees, and expand domestic manufacturing of critical infrastructure goods to insulate supply chains and support local jobs.
Fighting Against Corruption
I am working to reestablish trust in our government and make sure it works for you, not just billionaires. That is why I support common-sense transparency measures like the Restore Trust in Government Act that will ban any Member of Congress, the President, the Vice President, and their family members from buying or selling stocks. We need ethics reform for the Supreme Court as well, and a sharp curtailment of online gambling. I also believe no one is above the law – not even the President, which is why I champion a constitutional amendment that will reverse the Supreme Court’s decision to grant presidents – like Donald Trump – immunity from criminal prosecution. I also support a constitutional amendment to get dark money super-PACs out of our politics.
I am fighting against politically motivated attacks by the Trump Administration to withhold key aid to Washington when a natural disaster hits. I held their feet to the fire when the Administration withheld funds after a deadly bomb cyclone hit our district in 2024, and joined my delegation to successfully fight and secure disaster funds for both dangerous flooding and fires in 2025 and 2026. As a doctor, I am also fighting the Administration’s ongoing budget cuts to medical research and public health. I have continually fought back against this Administration’s cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Keeping Our Communities Safe
I believe everyone should feel safe in their community. I have worked with both parties to secure funding for local police and improve training for local law enforcement. I am also fighting to protect vulnerable communities and ensure their safety. That is why I fought for common-sense transparency and accountability measures that will rein in ICE and CBP, and will continue to hold the line and not provide funding to these agencies until they change their ways, take off their masks, and obey the law. I am also working to keep communities safe through commonsense gun safety measures like comprehensive background checks and safe storage, that reduce gun violence and save lives, while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
Fighting For Our Children
As a pediatrician and member of Congress, I am focused on protecting the health and wellbeing of our nation’s children. That is why I have consistently fought against RFK Jr.’s destructive vaccine and healthcare policies that are endangering the lives of children everywhere. In Congress, I am also working across the aisle to fight big tech to protect children and their data online. I led the Kids Online Safety Act, which requires platforms to establish policies to prevent harms to minors and to provide specific safeguards and tools to minors and parents. I have been a champion of this legislation for years. I am also fighting to lower childcare costs, preserve an excellent education for all kids–regardless of zip code, and guarantee universal, free, high quality pre-K for families who choose to enroll.
Bolstering Foreign Affairs and Protecting America’s Standing Around the World
I have voted multiple times to end Trump’s reckless war in Iran that has already killed American servicemembers, undermined our national security, and skyrocketed prices for Americans here at home. I remain focused on doing all I can do to secure peace in the Middle East while preserving our national security at home. I believe in the critical need for a two state solution, with a safe and secure Israel living side by side with a safe and prosperous Palestinian state. Netanyahu’s far-right government and current Palestinian leadership are undermining this long-held goal and must be pushed back to the negotiating table. I believe we need a recalibration in American policy in the Middle East as Netanyahu’s actions condone West Bank violence, undermine the safety of Israel, put Jewish people around the world at risk, and obstruct a path to a permanent and peaceful two-state solution.
