Dr. Schrier Calls on Rossi to Contribute Support from NRA to Fund Active Shooter Preparedness

“It is time for politicians to stop profiting from an industry that spends millions to stop common-sense gun safety policies and makes it easier for individuals to do harm to innocent children. Instead of just giving the money back, Rossi should use that money for good, by resourcing the same types of training that saved precious lives in Florida yesterday.” – Dr. Kim Schrier

Issaquah, WA, February 15, 2018—Dr. Kim Schrier, the leading Democratic candidate for Washington’s 8th Congressional District, issued a statement following yesterday’s tragic shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School:

“As the mom of a third grader in public school, my heart breaks for the families, classmates, and teachers at Stoneman Douglas High School. We send our son to school every day and trust that we’re sending him somewhere he can feel safe and secure. But the truth is that nowhere is safe in a country that allows guns to get into the hands of people who would do others harm.

“There are no words to describe the atrocity that the Stoneman Douglas community experienced yesterday, but we can be grateful that the school’s staff were trained in how to handle an active shooter scenario. Heroic teachers moved quickly and knew exactly how to protect their students.

“I call on my opponent, Dino Rossi, to contribute the $419,350 in support he received from the NRA in his 2010 campaign to fund lockdown and active shooter preparedness training in public schools throughout the 8th district. I further ask that he refrain from accepting additional support from the NRA and gun manufacturers. It is time for politicians to stop profiting from an industry that spends millions to stop common-sense gun safety policies and makes it easier for individuals to do harm to innocent children. Instead of just giving the money back, Rossi should use that money for good, by resourcing the same types of training that saved precious lives in Florida yesterday.”
