December 9, 2021 — 8th District Representative Kim Schrier’s bill, the National Forest Restoration and Remediation Act, is moving through to the Senate after the House approved the bipartisan legislation. The legislation aims to allow the U.S. Forest Service to retain interest on settlement funds and then apply the additional resources for restoration work.
“If this bill had been in place between fiscal years 2015 and 2019, the Forest Service would’ve received $7.5 million to supplement their environmental restoration work,” said Rep. Schrier.
The bill was backed with bipartisan support, include Republican Matt Rosendale from Montana, Republican Doug LaMalfa from California and Democrat Joe Neguse from Colorado.
The bill unanimously passed through the House Agriculture Committee in November.
