Issaquah, WA, August 11, 2017 – On Thursday, the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation released a study that found the Trump Administration’s actions have spurred double-digit premium increases in health insurance policies across the U.S. Insurers have reportedly sought significantly higher premium increases in 2018 due to healthcare uncertainties triggered by the Administration’s action and inaction on health care policy. Dr. Kim Schrier, a long-time local pediatrician who is running for Congress in Washington’s 8th congressional district, issued a statement.
Dr. Kim Schrier said, “The nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation report shows why Congress needs to work urgently to improve the ACA and stabilize the insurance market as a first step. They could use some help from a physician who understands the real impact of health care policy on the budgets of families across the eighth district.
“When Congress wastes seven months playing political games with healthcare instead of taking on problems like skyrocketing costs, families like the ones I treat every day get hurt. These families are already struggling with higher co-pays and deductibles. They are being pounded by skyrocketing prescription drug prices. Now, double-digit increases in insurance premiums due to the failure of Congress and the Administration will hit them hardest. Yet our congressman refuses to hold town hall meetings to hear our concerns and defend his votes.
“This is why we need a representative who will fight for the health and financial security of every resident in our district, who will listen to the people who live here, who understands how health care works and what’s broken, and will fight to fix it.”
Currently, there are no women doctors serving in the U.S. Congress.
