Issaquah, WA, September 6, 2017 — Dr. Kim Schrier, a leading candidate for Washington State’s 8th congressional seat, issued the following statement upon the retirement announcement of Rep. Dave Reichert:
“I thank Rep. Reichert for his many years of public service. While we did not often see eye-to-eye on many issues facing our communities, I respect the commitment of anyone who steps forward and offers their time and service.
“I’ve made that commitment too – to step up and serve as the next representative of the 8th district in Congress. I’m not a politician – I’m a local pediatrician, a wife and a mom who is worried about where our country is headed. People want someone who is going to fight for our families, our children, a thriving economy, and a strong middle class.
“Our campaign is powered by people all over the district who are sick of petty politics getting in the way of doing what’s right, and doing what is simple common sense. I’ll hold Donald Trump accountable when he goes too far — as he did when he gutted our national effort to combat climate change, while wildfires spread across the mountains and superstorms batter our coasts. He went too far again yesterday, when he put the lives and futures of 800,000 immigrant children in jeopardy by ordering an end to DACA. And, as both a doctor and a patient with a pre-existing condition, I will work to fix what’s wrong with our health care system, to make it more affordable, more accessible, and still excellent.
It’s time to express the practical values and priorities of the people of this district loud and clear. Together, we will send a powerful, new voice to Congress next year.”
