Issaquah, WA, June 14, 2018 – Planned Parenthood Action Fund today announced its sole endorsement in Washington’s 8th District race to Dr. Kim Schrier. Planned Parenthood Action Fund joins other leading women’s groups, including EMILY’s List, National Women’s Political Caucus, and Win With Women backing Dr. Schrier in the race.
“Washington’s 8th District deserves a representative who will fight for accessible, affordable health care, and Dr. Kim Schrier is the candidate we trust to fight for women and families,” said Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “She is passionate about empowering women, improving access to preventative care and family planning services, and standing up against attempts to roll back women’s health care. We need strong leaders like Kim Schrier who understand that reproductive rights are human rights. Our communities and families will be stronger with representatives like Dr. Kim Schrier in Congress.”
Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement further illustrates the stark contrast between Dr. Schrier and her Republican opponent Dino Rossi. Rossi, an anti-choice, far-right Republican, once suggested America reinstitute “homes for unwed mothers” like they had “90-100 years ago” as an alternative to abortion. He fought against a woman’s right to make her own decision in Washington state, and he has opposed federal funding to reduce the unintended teen pregnancy rate, improve access to family planning services, and require health plans to cover birth control.
Dr. Kim Schrier is a lifelong supporter of Planned Parenthood and has repeatedly spoken out against attempts to block patients from, or otherwise undermine, the country’s largest provider of women’s reproductive health services. “As a woman, a doctor, and a mother, I am deeply honored by Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement,” said Dr. Schrier. “I will always be a champion for women – from demanding women have access to the full range of reproductive health care options, to investing in preventative care and cancer screenings, to speaking out against far-right anti-women policies like those Dino Rossi has advocated for.
